This post is not just for students but financial aid folks also who follow this. It is regarding retirement and making sure people are saving enough. I found a cool app that is very easy to use. The SMART MONEY Retirement Planner APP and of course it is free. It allows you to type in Salary, current savings, return, % saved and years until retirement. It gives you a very basic calculation telling you if you will have enough to retire. This is really important for young alums to make sure retirement is not forgot about while alums are concentrating on loan repayment. It allows you to change the numbers to allow you to dream about retirement.

Friends, if you have not seen a previous post about Bradsdeals.com you need to check it out. This site shows some great deals that is costing me some money because the deals are great! It is worth checking out but it is dangerous because you may buy some items!!

So I just read an article that spending on credit cards and credit card debt are on the rise this holiday season. Since 2008, consumer spending had been down and credit down had been decreasing too. The signs are pointing that the economy is improving and one sign is people are spending again which means credit card debt is on the rise. Here is an easy calculator that may scare people into paying off credit cards quicker because it shows total interest paid. It is eye opening the amount of interest people are paying. Try this, it will make you nervous!!!

Wow, this is a great site for people looking at electronics. I read about Decide.com in the New York Times on Black Friday. This site helps you make a decision on the timing of buying electronics. For example, with all of the holiday deals, I looked at buying a computer. By adding the make and model and submitting, this site tells you if you are getting a good deal and BUY or Wait because a better deal is coming. It also gives you percent of Confidence level and data. This is also available as an app for your smartphones.

This really makes a difference in saving money! Don’t spend too much!!

A Good Way to Pay for Medical School

The National Health Service Corps offers both scholarships and loan repayments to help pay for Medical School. A brand new program is the Students to Service Loan Repayment Program (S2S LRP). This allows 4th years to apply to the NHSC for the loan repayment program after Residency. What is good about this program is students who get these awards know before Residency that they will have up to $120,000 with 3 years of full time service or 6 years of 1/2 time service. The Loan Repayment is not taxable also which is a huge plus. Checkout this website! Another positive of this program is, one can apply again for this program after 3 years of service and received more loan repayment. Employers still pay the market wage on top of the loan repayment. This is worth checking out.

Interview season has begun for both students interviewing to get into medical school and also for 4th years trying to match with different programs. I am a person who loves “points” or “miles”. I am the holder of many Marriott points and US Airways miles. For these groups traveling, it is time to rack up those point and miles. A couple of informative and neat websites will be offered with this post- starting with www.thepointsguy.com. This site has some offers and deals but it is good to get information about programs on this site. The blog is good too.

Another really cool site in www.freefrequentflyermiles.com. This site gives you calculations on how to value the miles being spent. It is so worth checking out this site. This site also has a page on getting started in programs. Please note, you could get addicted like me!
